I have been asked to post the following by Tom Kennedy
To all Archery Associations and to all Archers no matter what you shoot. I have been asked to take a job that I feel I am not qualified to do, unless I have the cooperation and knowledge from you. The Archers, weather you are just someone who likes to shoot in there own backyard, a dedicated bow hunter, a 3d shooter, a fita shooter, or presidents of AANS, BANS or TANS, we need to have a meaningful discussion as to where archery is going in N.S.. All you have to do is look at how many are attending the shoots this year. The numbers are way down. When we started the 3D Shooters Assoc. we did not do so with the intent of not affiliating with AANS. But they left us no choice. We sent them a letter 5 months ago and to the best of my knowledge we have not received a reply. In February 2007 we were asked by the President of AANS if we where coming to the indoor 3D Provincials in Halifax. We told him we would like to attend as long as there were no problems. He called us back and assured us there would be none. After putting together 7 shooters from as far away as Cape Breton, we drove to Halifax , unloaded all of our gear, went inside and were told no you are not allowed to shoot, unless we join AANS right there. To me that was not a good start in building a relationship, it is one thing to volunteer to join an Association and quite another to be told that you have to, (we do have our own insurance National Firearms Association). I believe that if we could not shoot that day , then the President should have stood up and said the shoot is cancelled. I do not want to sound like I am bashing AANS but what happened at the above to me and all the letters that I have in front of me about concerns from others I would like to have some answers. I am not going to ask them here, but would like to address them in a meeting. There are far too many shoots, almost every weekend there is a shoot somewhere in the province, just my opinion you are not going to get shooters from Yarmouth to go to Cape Breton and visa versa on a regular basis if ever. The 3D Shooters Assoc. is growing even faster than we could anticipate our membership for this year have exceeded our expectations. Let’s not forget the Cape Breton Bowmen are having a 2 day shoot September 1st. & 2nd they have 20 new Rinehart targets.and they also have a place to bunk. So let’s give them a little support. I also believe we should try to put the fun back in shooting, and leave the politics at home. In closing I believe we should have this meeting somewhere central like Shubenacadie orTruro. If anyone wishes to see this meeting take place and want to attend please get back to me. 3D Shooters Assoc. Tom Kennedy email tkennedy73178@ns.sympatica.ca or 7373Hwy 289, Upper Stewiacke,B0N 2P0
